Background information: today, peptides are mostly produced in chemical synthesis, which consumes a lot of ressources (25 tons to produce 1 kg) and leads to high production costs (1 MEUR for 1 kg). This causes problematic waste streams and high prices for products, such as drugs. The jury of the Next Economy Award recognized the potential of NUMAFERM’s uniquie bioproduction platform that enables to reduce pollution and costs significantly and to make peptides a more sustainable and affordable product.
